1 to 30 is too much, plain and simple. Teachers much be able to effectively engage their students and the parents of those students. Early Childhood and Grade Schools should be limited to approximately 10-12. At the High School level, no more than 15-20.
Proper classroom size reduces behavior issues, allows for better engagement and helps our students retain the information they are learning.
The right ratios lead us to improved student and teacher safety. Too often we hear of violence against a student or teacher and it takes too long for someone to intervene. 1) Physical violence against a teacher can NEVER be tolerated. This should lead to automatic removal of that student from the public learning space. 2) Teachers and Students should be educated on GANG VIOLENCE and the signs that someone may be involved in a gang or being harassed by one. 3) Self-Defense, MARTIAL ARTS and BOXING classes could be offered as extra-curricular activities. These sports can help build confidence and create a positive outlet for those students who sign up.
We are competing in GLOBAL MARKET and our students must have what they need to THRIVE! Students should be exposed to TRADES and have early in-roads to NEVADA companies. They should also be exposed to industries that are growing on the global stage. This gives student and parents the ability to make informed decisions about the FUTURE.
With my day job, I KNOW how this can get WAY OUT OF HAND! Before long, reports start to compound and no one has stopped to ask, DO WE REALLY NEED THIS? Is anyone READING this? I will advocate to streamline reporting so that our educators can spend their time doing what they LOVE - creating SUCCESSFUL children and young adults.
